Dak Prescott stiff arms an LSU defender (AP)

Dak Prescott's physical altercation on a spring break vacation was widely publicized on social media last March, but a detailed recount of the incident released on Thursday shows Prescott was lucky to walk away.

A complete stranger drove Prescott and his companions back to their condo after they were badly beaten and had a gun pulled on them, according to a story released today by Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel.

Prescott’s performance on the field last season skyrocketed Mississippi State up the polls and Prescott’s profile along with it. His newfound notoriety made him a target for the men who attacked him.

One of the men told Prescott, “I got a bullet with your name on it,” according to the report by Thamel.

Prescott, who struggled to walk after the incident, rode in a car for seven hours back to Starkville after the fight before receiving treatment for his injuries. The result: Five stitches, a chipped tooth, and multiple bruises.

Last season Prescott made history by becoming the school’s all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and total offense. It will be difficult for Prescott to duplicate last season’s performance, because Mississippi State is not sneaking up on teams any longer.

Whatever happens this season, Prescott is fortunate to be alive.
