Tennessee may want to take another look at its quarterback situation after Tuesday’s’s practice. Though the starting job appears to be safe for Josh Dobbs, 5-foot-8 senior Alton “Pig” Howard caught the attention of Volunteers coach Butch Jones with this throw:

While it’s safe to say Howard won’t be quarterbacking the Vols under any circumstances, Jones’ tweet demonstrates how Howard is in good graces with his coach. And it’s another example of how far Howard has come from just a year ago.

In March of 2014, Howard left the team under "personal circumstances," and it was unclear if or when he would return.

Howard would rejoin the Vols in time for last season, however, and he led the team in catches (47) and receiving yards (534). He may not be throwing the ball as impressively as he did in Tuesday’s practice trick during the season, but it appears he’ll have plenty of chances to be on the receiving end of passes while lining up out of the slot.

The unranked Vols open their season Sept. 5 against Bowling Green in Nashville.
