Sports Illustrated released their preseason top 25 poll on Wednesday afternoon. Included in SI's top 25 were eight SEC schools, which, for most SEC fans, is about six schools too few.

Auburn was the first SEC school to appear on the list, at No. 2 behind top-ranked Ohio State. The magazine has Alabama at No. 5, and ranks Georgia at No. 11, the highest position from the SEC East.

Here are how the SEC schools rank according to Sports Illustrated:

2. Auburn

5. Alabama

11. Georgia

13. Ole Miss

20. Missouri

22. Arkansas

23. LSU

25. Mississippi State

The Bulldogs were ranked No. 9 in the previously released USA Today Coaches’ Poll, and this slip in the rankings is clearly a sign that Mark Richt has lost control of his team.

Texas A&M was the only team left out of the top 25 from the SEC West, while Missouri was the only team from the east to join Georgia on the list.

Ultimately these rankings are no more than biased guesses, and Sports Illustrated wanted to emphasis just how irrelevant these are by putting Notre Dame at No. 4.

The AP Poll, the only one that carries some weight, will be released on Aug. 23.
