UGA will have to wait until January to find out if the nation’s No. 1 tight end will sign with the Bulldogs.
Isaac Nauta confirmed to the AJC on Sunday that he will be announcing his commitment on Jan. 9, a decision that will certainly provide UGA with enough time to act accordingly.
Nauta, who de-committed from Florida State on Tuesday after being pledged to the Seminoles since last December, was in attendance for UGA’s Dawg Night prospect camp back on July 18.
During the visit, the Buford native spent valuable time developing rapport with Georgia commit Jacob Eason, the 5-star quarterback out of Lake Stevens, Wash., and the two even spent a couple of more days together post-camp, which can be viewed as a reassuring sign for the Bulldogs.
Nauta’s father, Jay Nauta, took it a step further and acknowledged to the AJC on Tuesday that UGA has always been a school that Isaac has seriously considered from the jump.
“As far as Georgia, I know UGA has always been one of the schools at the top,” his father told the AJC on Tuesday. “I know that he has said that from the start.”
Aside from UGA, the 6-foot-4, 237-pounder has been fairly active. He’s taken unofficial visits to TCU, where Isaac’s uncle resides, Texas and LSU in the last week alone.
Nauta, who transferred from Buford High School to Florida’s IMG Academy after his junior year, will have plenty of time between now and January to make a clear decision.
And as his father told the AJC, he’s treating it like a business decision.
“I know there has been a lot of press about our family living in Georgia, but we always tell him ‘You need to go where you fit the best and excel the best,” his father said on Tuesday.
“He is going to know where he needs to be at the end of the day.”
