It'll be a family reunion at Alabama as 3-star Shawn Jennings committed to Crimson Tide on Tuesday. He will join his older brother, Anfernee Jennings, who is a freshman defensive end at Alabama.
Shawn is a 6-foot-2, 218-pounder out of Dadeville, Ala., who is rated the No. 45 athlete in the country. He committed to Alabama over Auburn, and announced his decision via Twitter..
Richard White, Jennings’ coach at Dadeville High School, says Alabama is not only getting a superior athletic talent, but an even better person.
“They’re getting a quality human first,” White told the AJC. “He understands what we’re trying to teach him. He’s real smart. He picks up coverages well. He does a good job in the secondary communicating with other guys what’s going on.”
White had the privilege of coaching both Jennings brothers. The coach admits that the younger brother may be a tad more athletic.
“They both are very, very good football players,” White said. “The oldest one, Anfernee, used to play defensive end for us and he was pretty much a wrecking ball on defense. His little brother is athletic and probably more athletic than he is.”
In 2014, Shawn showcased his versatility playing both safety and quarterback at times for Dadeville. He recorded a team-high four interceptions and five total touchdowns on offense, per Maxpreps.com. He could play outside linebacker or safety at Alabama, depending on body development.
