UGA commitment Chris Barnes told the AJC earlier this month that he planned to visit the Florida Gators for its "Friday Night Lights" event this weekend.
The Lee County High School standout did not make the trip to rival territory.
The 3-star offensive tackle told the AJC on Sunday night that the main factor that kept him from camping at Florida was personal reasons. His father recently had hip surgery and he deemed it best to just stay home and help take care of him.
He also said that showing everyone how committed he was to UGA by not making that trip did also factor in his mind, too. The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder is rated as the nation’s No. 54 offensive tackle.
When he was planning the trip to Florida earlier this month, Barnes told the AJC that the main reason he was going was to work on his technique and get used to other coaching styles.
When Barnes committed to UGA last April, he said that he still planned to visit other schools, despite his pledge to the Bulldogs. Barnes was asked by the AJC if that was still the plan on Sunday night and he was not able to immediately respond.
