No. 1 recruit Rashan Gary at Dawg Night (Randy Schafer/Special to AJC)
Rashan Gary is wanted by everyone. The 5-star defensive tackle from New Jersey is the nation's No. 1 overall recruit. Ask any player that's faced him and they'll agree with that assessment.
"He's as good as advertised," Dematha Catholic guard Terrance Davis said. "He's worth every bit of that No. 1 ranking. For sure." That's how the nation's No. 2 offensive guard sums up Gary's skill set.
Gary was in Athens this weekend for UGA’s Dawg Night recruiting extravaganza.
UGA OL commitment Aaron Dowdell came to Dawg Night this week with a goal in mind: Get in Gary’s kitchen about UGA.
He did. He also found out this nugget.
“He was basically telling me he really doesn’t have a top school right now,” Dowdell said. “Every school is really like still open with me. I really think that Georgia has a shot with him.”
Dowdell wasn’t sure what UGA needed to do to earn an official visit with Gary. He just hoped that the staff will invite him back down to Athens and continue to work on him.
“I hung out with him and talked a lot,” Dowdell said. “I went into the weekend thinking I needed to tell him what Georgia was all about. I wanted to do that. Nobody had to tell me to do it.”
