UGA made a huge impression this weekend on the nation's No. 2 offensive guard. Terrance Davis told the AJC on Sunday he's already decided to take an official visit to UGA.
It was the Maryland resident’s third trip to UGA, but he made sure he had already scheduled another trip before he left town.
“I definitely can see myself at Georgia,” said Davis said, who also said UGA told him he was No. 1 on the board at guard.
That's a pretty big deal for UGA because his high school teammate has been rated the nation's No. 2 all-purpose back for 2017. Anthony McFarland, a 5-star recruit, was also at Dawg Night.
“He’s a grab-your-popcorn running back for sure,” Davis said. “You got to watch that guy. He’s the fastest guy I’ve ever seen on a football field. … I’ve seen him run past through a whole team before.”
Davis also told the AJC he will take his official visit the weekend of the UGA awards banquet. That's not a game week, but it will be significant because it is also the weekend 5-star QB commitment Jacob Eason plans to take his official visit.
Davis said UGA was already in his Top 5 before this weekend, but the program’s chances definitely went up along the trip.
What makes a prospect from Maryland eye UGA? He said a big reason was Mark Richt. Davis said he notices that UGA doesn't change coaches. He also liked the tradition of SEC football and a downhill run-first offense.
The 6-foot-4, 325-pounder Davis did not elect to compete at Dawg Night. He spent the majority of his time watching the O-line drills. That allowed him to process what it would be like to play for UGA offensive line coach Rob Sale.
“He’s a down-to-earth coach,” Davis said. “He’s a really good guy for you. He’ll get after you when it is time to work, but then will love you up afterward and be back to having fun and being a cool guy. That’s all you can ask for out of a coach.”
Davis said Alabama and UGA will receive major consideration in his decision.
“I really like Alabama,” Davis said. “I really like Georgia, too. They were both good visits. Alabama had a great BBQ sitdown and I got to sit down and talk to (Alabama offensive line coach Mario) Cristobal and see what he was all about.”
Does he have a favorite? “I won’t say I have a favorite but they were both very good visits,” Davis said.
Davis said he has Alabama, UCLA and Michigan in mind for visits. He’s not sure which school will get his fifth official after that.
He will not enroll early. Davis said he was “leaning toward” making his decision on National Signing Day. He also plans to play in the Under Armour All-American game in January.
Davis also mentioned another positive for UGA. That's the presence of 2015 OL signee Pat Allen. He said he has a relationship with Allen. That's another player from his home state that he would be able to relate to in the offensive line meeting room.
