Ben Davis has had a change of plans about UGA's Dawg Night prospect camp.

The 5-star linebacker from Alabama told the AJC on Wednesday that he won’t be attending UGA’s biggest recruiting event of the summer on Saturday.

“No sir, I’m not going,” Davis said. “I have some stuff do with my family. I’m going to try to get back later. I already told them (the UGA coaches) that I wouldn’t be able to make it this week.”

But it’s not all bad news for Bulldogs. Davis said he’ll definitely be back on UGA’s campus during the season.

And then he said something else that might both shock and please UGA fans:

“I know I’m going to take an official visit to Georgia,” Davis said. “It’s because I have so much family there in Georgia. I’ve got uncles, aunts and cousins in Atlanta. Also, when I visited Georgia’s campus last spring, I really liked it. So I’m taking an official there.”

That’s a pretty big deal because last week at The Opening all-star event, Davis told reporters that he will likely take official visits to Alabama, FSU, Auburn and USC. UGA was not mentioned.

So now will it likely be those those four and the Bulldogs? “I haven’t really set them (my official visits) yet … but I know I’m going to Georgia,” Davis said. “That’s the only one I know for sure.”

Most think that Davis is a “lock” to play for Alabama since he’s a legacy. His father, Wayne Davis, remains as Alabama’s all-time leader in career tackles. Even 100-percent of the 247sports.com Crystal Ball predictions have Ben Davis projected to Alabama.

What about that? “My recruiting is wide open,” Davis insisted. “Everybody who offers me, I’m interested in them. So I’m going to take as many visits as I can to see which college is the best fit for me.

Davis is rated as a 5-star and the No. 2 overall prospect out of Alabama.
