Florida State commitment Isaac Nauta — the nation's No. 1 tight end — will make another trip to the UGA campus this month. Nauta told the AJC on Wednesday night that he will attend UGA's elite "Dawg Night" prospect camp on July 18.
That will be his second trip to UGA in a very short time frame this summer. Nauta told the AJC last week that UGA was his No. 2 choice after making a brief unofficial visit with the Bulldogs. The father of the 5-star recruit, Jay Nauta, even said his wife "tends to think he will flip (to UGA)."
What were the reasons for that? Well, the speedy 6-foot-4 former Buford standout transferred last December to IMG Academy in Florida for his senior season. That was to coincide with his family moving to Florida to take advantage of his father’s job opportunity.
Well, the Nauta family has now changed plans and decided to settle in Metro Atlanta. The family home in Dacula is less than an hour away from UGA.
That series of events has given the 5-star tight end time in Florida to sample what college life far away from home might be like and whether or not it is for him.
Isaac Nauta did confirm with 247sports FSU reporter Chris Nee when he arrived at The Opening this week that his current commitment was still solid. He does plan to take all five of his official visits and enroll early for the winter semester.
Nauta had a tremendous day at The Opening on Wednesday. Some analysts started to wonder if he might not be only be the nation’s top tight ends, but one of the nation’s Top 20 overall players regardless of position.
