Last week, former Georgia great Herschel Walker said on a national broadcast that at the age of 53, he could still have a role in the NFL.
On Tuesday, Falcons head coach Dan Quinn was asked at a Buckhead Business Association meeting if the team could use Walker, who compiled 8,225 rushing yards in more than a dozen NFL seasons.
In short, the AJC's D. Orlando Ledbetter reports, the answer was "Yes."
Quinn told the crowd: “He’s one of my all-time favorite players. Yeah, we have room for him.
“For him, the legacy he left at Georgia … He’d definitely fit in great from a competitive standpoint.”
Whether he was playing to the crowd or being truthful, the Falcons currently have a backfield that consists of Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman, Antone Smith, Jerome Smith and Terron Ward.
At 53, Walker would be oldest player in the league. The oldest person to play in the NFL was quarterback/kicker George Blanda, who put on the pads until the age of 48.
There would have to be some discussion with Antone Smith about that No. 34 jersey…
