Georgia Tech is one of the leaders for Jarrett Cole, the 3-star safety who will announce his college decision by the end of the summer.

Cole and his teammates from Norcross High School played in the Corky Kell 7-on-7 tournament this past weekend.

“Right now my leaders would be Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Iowa, Nebraska and Wake Forest,” Cole told the AJC.

What does Cole like about Tech? “I love that it’s close to home. My family would get to see the games. And they’ve been to 18 straight bowl games, so I know they know how to get it done. And (defensive coordinator Ted Roof) and the whole coaching staff and defensive staff is great.”

Cole has only seen one college campus this summer – and that’s Wake Forest. And, as it stands, that will probably the only one of Cole’s finalists that gets a visit before the big day.

“No, (I don’t have anything else planned), not right now,” Cole said. “I’m really focused on school, so whatever I can really fit into my schedule, then I’ll have to work it out.”

Who else could enter the mix? Cole said he has been talking to Auburn and Michigan, but doesn’t know if either will offer. He’s fine if they don’t, because he feels blessed to have almost 20 offers to select from.

What’s Cole’s most important factor in selecting a school? “A school that has my best interests in mind – not just in football – but life in general,” he said. “I’m looking for a school that is going to make me better on and off the field as a person and as a man.”
