Mays wide receiver Randrecous Davis is a UGA target for the Class of 2016. He's already used to rocking the Georgia "G" in his everyday life. Just check out the guns and his impressive collection of body art. There's a football-helmet related skull, among other things. There are images that represent the Atlanta Hawks, the Chicago Bulls and even The Rolling Stones.
“I want to play football until I die,” Davis said.
Its also hard to miss a red Georgia “G” on his right bicep.
“I even grew up a Georgia fan,” Davis said.
Davis said Mays alum Bryan McClendon has been recruiting him heavily of late and the possibility of playing in Athens is on his mind. He received an offer earlier this month at a Mark Richt 7-on-7 camp in Athens. He didn't work out, but the Bulldogs just wanted to get a look at him. The film already shows off his 10.8 second speed in the 100 meters and his athleticism.
“They just want me to come to ‘Dawg Night’ and then my offer would become committable,” Davis said. “They just want me to show up and show out.”
McClendon used the Mays alumni connection as part of his pitch.
“He’s really on me hard and he wants me to come start for him,” McClendon said. “He likes me a lot and he wants me to come up and start for him. This is my senior year and I am aiming to break some of his school records this year in football and in track. I’m coming for him.”
The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder said Clemson, Louisville, Iowa and Tennessee are also recruiting him. He told the AJC last Friday at the Corky Kell 7-on-7 Classic that his first offer was from Kentucky.
“I’m a go-to guy on offense,” he said. “Get the ball in my hands and I’ll make things happen.”
Davis, 17, is rated a 3-star receiver by the 247sports composite ranking and the No. 73 receiver in the 2016 signing class. He was rated the No. 41 player in Georgia. He said that he has a chance to graduate early and will take that into consideration.
“It will help me prepare and know the plays for whatever school I go to,” Davis said.
He also said that Georgia will let him play defensive back, but he would rather have the ball in his hand.
“This is a great opportunity for me,” Davis said. “I am just staying humble and working hard to one day really be able to take care of all my family.”
He said the thought of playing with incoming top-rated quarterback Jacob Eason is also a selling point for Georgia.
“That guy is legit,” he said. “He has got a cannon.”
Mays coach Corey Jarvis told the AJC earlier this month what the rising senior brings to the table. He said that Davis also has an offer from Alabama.
“He’s very explosive with the ball in his hands,” Jarvis said. “He’s a special-type athlete with a ball in his hands. He takes a very high football IQ to the field with him and he’s a very humble kid.”
