Alabama and Florida State have agreed to open the 2017 season at the new Falcons stadium in Atlanta, according to a report in the Palm Beach Post.

The report does not indicate if it will be part of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff series. Alabama has played in the game the most, winning in all four of its appearances.

An official announcement is expected soon.

Georgia will play North Carolina in the 2016 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. Georgia Tech will reportedly meet Tennessee in one of the 2017 opening games in Atlanta.

The Alabama-Florida State matchup has been in the works since November. In April, a potential meeting between Florida State and Auburn fell through.

The meeting will reunite Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher and Alabama’s Nick Saban. Fisher coached under Saban for five seasons (2000-04) at LSU as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

The programs – which combined have won four of the last six national titles – have previously met four times, most recently in 2007 in Jacksonville. Three other games were all played in Tuscaloosa, with Alabama winning in 1965 and ’74. The teams tied in 1967.
