Last week was a busy one in recruiting for North Paulding High School.
Tight end Dylan Autenrieth committed to N.C. State, while quarterback Kyle Banks announced his intentions to attend Middle Tennessee State.
“Well, the coaches were great up there, the school is great, academics are great, the feel that I had when I went on campus was great, being around the team and the coaching staff was great,” Banks told the AJC at the Corky Kell 7-on-7 tournament.
“I felt comfortable at Middle Tennessee State. Overall, it was a great fit for me and everything just felt right while I was up there.”
It was big news for Middle Tennessee State. Banks is one of Georgia’s top quarterbacks, passing for 3,244 yards and 31 touchdowns as a junior.
“They were ecstatic,” Banks said. “I was very excited and they were, too. (Offensive coordinator Buster) Faulkner told me he was almost about to fall out of his seat. It was so good to tell them that (I was committing).”
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound rising junior said he was helped out by his parents in reaching the decision. “It was primarily my dad. He’s been with me throughout this whole thing. My mom loved it. It’s not too far from home, so it’s good for her. I think it’s a good fit. The school is good, my parents know about it, it’s not too far from home, so I think it’ll be a good change for us.”
Even though Banks committed early, he will still be recruited by other colleges until signing day. However, he seems pretty content with Middle Tennessee State.
“Well, of course more things are going to happen,” he said. “We’ll see what goes on, but a commitment is a commitment.”
Banks is rated as the state’s No. 113 overall prospect.
