Breon Dixon is already one of the state's most heavily-recruited 2017 prospects, racking up around 20 early offers.
But the 4-star linebacker would still like to add a couple of more, including one from an in-state school.
"I'd like offers from LSU and Georgia," Dixon told the AJC. "I've been in contact with LSU with them a little bit, and I'm in contact with Georgia a lot. I just went up to their camp and did a little bit of that, so we'll see how that goes. You know, one of my buddies E.J. Price just de-committed (from Georgia)."
Dixon and Price are friends, despite the fact that Price plays for a rival school, Archer. What did Dixon think of Price’s decision to back off from UGA?
“He talked us to about it,” Dixon said. “He just felt like he made (his commitment) too early. He just felt like he should play it out a little more to see more of his options. He’s from Michigan. I don’t know. He has a really good connection with the coaches. He just felt like he needed to extend his recruitment.”
Dixon has plenty of early suitors. His list of early offers includes Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee and Louisville. He wore Alabama gloves to Friday’s Corky Kell 7-on-7 tournament in Roswell.
“Kirby Smart — he is a great coach, and he is constantly sending guys to the NFL every year,” Dixon said about the Alabama defensive coordinator. “It’s a program where you go in and get work done. You’re not going to be playing around and focusing on other stuff. You’re gonna go there and focus on football and go to the NFL if you get right.”
The 6-0, 215-pounder smiled when he talked about Alabama.
“Yeah, I’m liking a lot of schools a lot, though,” Dixon said. “But I like Alabama a lot. I like them. I like Kirby and Nick Saban – he’s really cool, real nice person, good coach, he’s going to keep you disciplined and make you a better person coming out of college.”
Dixon on Auburn: “I just like the family feel of the coaches, and they just treat their players right. I like the scheme that they run. They run a pro-style scheme, so it’ll get you right for the NFL.”
Dixon on Tennessee: “I like coach (defensive coordinator John Jancek) a lot and how he runs the defense. And then you got Coach Thigpen, the linebackers coach. He is real cool. I’m real close with him. I built up a huge relationship with them. They were one of the first few SEC schools to offer me, so I built up a really good relationship with them after that.”
Dixon on Louisville: “I like the way that Coach Grantham is running the whole program, the defensive scheme where they’ll be playing me at, how I can use my speed and be versatile and make plays. I’ll be able to move around and use my abilities to be a good player.”
Dixon will make a college decision sooner than later because he’ll be an early enrollee. He will probably commit sometime next summer.
“The most important factor will be just the family feel, the relationship I have with the coaches and how they see me fitting in,” Dixon said. “I’m a different type of linebacker. I just got to fit in the right scheme. The type of defense they run will also be important. And you can’t forget the dorms, man; I gotta live there.”
Dixon is rated as the state’s No. 30 overall prospect for 2017.
