Houston County receiver Darion Anderson is currently UGA's only receiver commitment for the Class of 2016. He suffered a knee injury in late May during a post-spring practice workout. What type of player will he be at Georgia?
His current high school quarterback detailed how happy folks in Athens will be with Anderson once he arrives. Houston County rising junior Jake Fromm also holds offers from Alabama and Ole Miss, among others. He gave the AJC a breakdown of what to expect from Anderson prior to competing in the Corky Kell 7-on-7 Invitational at Blessed Trinity on Thursday.
“He’s the kind of guy you want to get the ball to as many times as you can,” Fromm said. “He makes stuff happen. We have a little six-yard snag route and he jukes one guy out, hurdles another guy, outraces more guys with angles and spin moves another guy on the way to the end zone. His greatest gift is you can’t tackle him. He really has a great feel for getting by guys and racking up the big yards.”
How’s he coming along?
"He's doing well with his rehab," Houston County coach Von Lassiter said on Thursday. "He's working with his physical therapist every other day and working with our trainer daily to get his knee rehabbed. It was a simple surgery. He got everything cleaned up. He's back up walking. His knee is not swelling anymore. He is going to be in really good shape. We look for him to be back after the Fourth of July and he will continue to rehab after that."
Lassiter said that Anderson is ahead of schedule with his rehab and his senior playmaker has worked hard to get back as quickly as he has.
“He’s a great player,” Lassiter said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever had anyone like him. He’s very dynamic in the field. Kind of like Tavarres King was for Georgia. Darion is a go-getter with great ball skills. He’s fun to watch on Friday nights and I am sure he will be that on Saturdays after he has had a great senior year with us.”

Lassiter said Anderson is not a candidate for early enrollment. He thinks he will play basketball and also run track during his senior year. He will play cornerback and receiver for the Bears this fall.
“The Georgia fans need to know what a top-notch kid he is,” Lassiter said. “He does what his coaches ask him to do. He’s very dynamic and a leader in the weight room and locker room. He’s a kid that you want to be the leader of your program.”
