Everett Golson seems to be on a path to start at quarterback for Florida State in the fall.
Golson graduated from Notre Dame in May and then moved to Tallahassee, where he is "doing really good," FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said last week.
“In meetings, talking to folks, knows the players. Seems to be going really well,” Fisher added.
Coaches can’t meet with players at this point, so Golson is having to learn the playbook on his own and meet with his new teammates, Fisher told the Orlando Sentinel.
Golson will compete with Sean Maguire to replace former Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, who was the No. 1 overall pick in last month’s NFL Draft.
“(Golson) does (have a lot to learn), but they all do. All those young players do,” Fisher said. “We have a lot of young players that we’re going to count on. They’ll all be in the same boat together.”
Golson could have remained at Notre Dame, but as a graduate transfer, will have one season of eligibility. He decided to transfer because he was guaranteed a starting job after battling Malik Zaire in the spring.
Zaire started the Music City Bowl after Golson started all 12 regular-season games.
Golson also looked at Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Florida before transferring to FSU. He even followed Mark Richt on Twitter.
Golson threw for 3,455 yards with 29 TDs and 14 INTs last year.
He threw for 2,405 yards, 12 TDs and six interceptions in 2012, when the Irish finished the regular season undefeated, before losing to Alabama in the BCS national championship game.
