Trey Blount said he "almost burst into tears" when he was offered by UGA on Wednesday.
Blount is a rising junior at Pace Academy high school, and he attended Mark Richt camp on Wednesday.
"It's just a blessing to receive a Georgia offer," Blount told the AJC. "I was brought up a Georgia fan. I live in Georgia. I'm just glad the hard work that I've put in the weight room and classroom was good enough to earn the offer."
Blount said after showing off his skills in front of UGA’s coaches, he met with the guy that camp is named after to get the good news.
“Honestly, I almost burst into tears,” Blount said. “It was really just a blessing because I just know how much my father and my uncle love Georgia … and how much I love Georgia. I know how great of a school it is. And to have to chance to attend there one day, that’s an awesome feeling.”
Blount also claims offers from Alabama and Miami. He paused for a few seconds when asked what the UGA news meant to his father.
“He was sitting up there in the stands,” Blount said. “He is so proud of me. It’s like that Bible verse If God is for you, who can be against you?’ We’ve been through so much together. He is always pushing me to be the best man I can be, the best student-athlete I can be, and everything. It is just a blessing that I’m able to work hard and have some good things come out of it.”
Did Blount consider committing to UGA on the spot? “They (one of the UGA assistants) told me the offer wasn’t committable just yet. He didn’t want to promise me anything because they have a lot of 2016 receivers coming in. But if I could’ve committed at that moment, I’d say there’s a 50/50 chance I would have.”
The 6-foot-3, 170-pounder could add to his offer list over the next few weeks. He skipped Clemson’s camp to go to UGA on Wednesday, and he will work out at South Carolina on Saturday. He also plans to visit Auburn and Vanderbilt, along with Stanford.
