Alabama commit earns UGA offer at camp

Netori Johnson is a rising junior from Cedar Grove High School who committed to Alabama last week.

On Friday, the 6-foot-5, 330-pounder worked out at UGA's 7-on-7 camp for offensive line coach Rob Sale — and he was later rewarded with an offer. Johnson, with his rainbow-colored hair, did the linemen session of the camp.

“They brought up to Coach Richt’s office,” Johnson told the AJC. “Coach Richt said that he liked me a lot, and that I had a scholarship offer from the University of Georgia.”

What was Johnson’s reaction? “I didn’t really say anything. I was surprised. I like the Dawgs. So I was shocked. I didn’t know what to think. Georgia has always been one of my top schools.

Johnson, who said that UGA likes him as an offensive tackle, said the Bulldog coaches brought up the fact that he just committed to Alabama.

“They just kept telling me to stay home and be a Dawg,” he said.

How does the UGA offer affect Johnson’s commitment to Alabama? “I’m not sure what to think about the Georgia offer,” he said. “I know I’m committed to Bama. I’m really liking Bama. I don’t see myself de-committing. But I do like Georgia.”

Johnson said he may return to UGA for Dawg Night prospect camp on July 18. He is going with his team to camp at UNC next week. Johnson is rated as the nation’s No. 5 prospect at offensive guard for 2017, along with the state of Georgia’s No. 25 overall prospect.
