Virginia quarterback Greyson Lambert told the AJC on Wednesday morning that he planned to transfer to UGA. That set off a flurry of excitement among fans that now saw serious shades of Grey around the depth chart situation under center in Athens.

Needless to say, the news moved the dial considerably for a player who may wind up as the starter or might just simply bolster quarterback depth.

How did social media react to the news? It was pretty much what one might expect.  Humor. Analysis. Interest. Speculation. Here’s the best of what popped up on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

Some good-old fashioned ribbing came from a familiar rival.

Lambert already graduated from a top academic school in Virginia and is eligible to play immediately per NCAA rules. He will have two seasons of eligibility at Georgia.

Lambert completed 59 percent of his passes last season at Virginia. He also paired 10 touchdowns with 11 interceptions on his season stat line.     There was even a qualified opinion of some extent from former Georgia punter Drew Butler.

Internet speculation is just that. Some of it might even motivate the next Bulldog QB. Lambert even weighed in with a thought of his own.
