It’s a done deal. Greyson Lambert is transferring to Georgia. And now the Bulldogs’ quarterback competition just got a lot more interesting.

"Yes, sir, I'm going to Georgia," Lambert told me in a text message Wednesday. Here's THE LINK to Seth Emerson's news story.

Lambert told me he will graduate from Virginia on July 11th and move to Athens on July 13th. He will report with the rest of the Bulldogs for preseason camp on Aug. 1.

So what does it mean?

I think it means a couple of things. First off, I don’t think it radically changes the dynamic for Georgia at the position. I still believe Brice Ramsey will end up starting this season with the Bulldogs and would still expect Faton Bauta to be the primary backup.

For now.

Here’s the deal with Lambert. He’s a great student-athlete and a pretty good quarterback. Think about it: This guy will graduate from the University of Virginia in 2 1/2 years. He did that while playing football and serving as a starting quarterback for most of the season.

So to be clear: Lambert is an excellent student and he’s coming to Georgia for academic reasons, first and foremost. Also, it’s my understanding that Lambert’s girlfriend attends UGA. So there’s that.

And as Brian Schottenheimer said this morning and coach Mark Richt said yesterday, Lambert will also be at UGA to compete. But, and I could be wrong here, there’s nothing to suggest Lambert possesses the tools or has the time to overtake Georgia’s other quarterbacks before the Sept. 5 season opener.

Hardly an endorsement to show up at an SEC school and unseat the present hierarchy in the month. Particularly when one takes into account he’ll be having to master a new offensive system.

But Lambert does give Georgia instant quality depth. And given time to learn the system and get comfortable in the offense, he could ultimately prove to be the best choice to serve as the bridge to Jacob Eason.

Meanwhile, we’re still left to wonder where Jacob Park figures in all this. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if he, too, seeks a transfer.

Keep an eye on Colorado State. Heard there’s a coach out that way who believes in what Park has to offer.
