Could a top UGA football signee be the next Andrelton Simmons or Rafael Furcal?
That's what the Atlanta Braves were trying to figure out on Thursday when they entertained Terry Godwin and other high school prospects for a private workout at Turner Field.

“It went really well,” Godwin’s mother told the AJC. “The Braves didn’t say much. They just said that they would be getting in touch, and that he did great.”
Godwin is the 5-star receiver from Callaway who signed a football scholarship with UGA last February.
On Thursday, the Braves put Godwin at shortstop rather than his normal position of third base, and he also got some time in right field. The scouts were impressed with Godwin’s arm strength (he also pitches) on a few throws from the outfield to home plate.
Godwin also showed good contact in batting practice. He was unable to display his blazing speed in the 60-yard dash because it was called off due to weather.
Some other highlights of the day for Godwin: A one-on-one conversation with former Braves star Fred McGriff, along with the chance to put on the Braves uniform at Turner Field.
“It was a once-in-lifetime experience to see him in an Atlanta Braves uniform,” his mother said. “That was something else.”
Godwin is not on many draft lists but could be selected late in next month’s draft due to his outstanding athleticism and high ceiling of potential. He also worked out for the Texas Rangers on Monday, and he has also sparked interest from the Florida Marlins.
Godwin will report to UGA for summer school on Monday morning, and he talked to Bulldogs recruiter John Lilly on the drive back home from Turner Field on Thursday.
“I don’t think Coach Lilly said a thing about baseball,” his mother said. “They are just excited about him being up there on Monday.”
