Everett Golson would only add to an expanding quarterback issue at Florida.
New coach Jim McElwain doesn’t appear satisfied with Treon Harris and Will Grier, the only two scholarship QBs on the Gators’ roster.
Skyler Mornhinweg, who was a backup last year, but started the final three games of 2013, has transferred to Columbia, marking the fifth time a QB has left the school since January 2013.
The others were Jacoby Brissett (N.C. State), Jeff Driskel (Louisiana Tech), Tyler Murphy (Boston College) and Max Staver (Houston Baptist).
Del Rio is the son of longtime football coach Jack Del Rio, who is now the coach of the Oakland Raiders. He was 8-of-18 passes for 141 yards in three games at Oregon State.
Golson reportedly visited Florida this week, but McElwain, like Georgia's Mark Richt, couldn't comment on the former Notre Dame QB on the SEC teleconference, but seemed to be interested in at least talking to Golson.
“Per NCAA rules, he’s a prospective student-athlete, so I can’t really comment on that part,” McElwain said. “Obviously him mentioning us is something that’s exciting.”
Florida State also is interested in having Golson replace Jameis Winston, according to reports.
