DE Chidi Okonya (AJC)
Tennessee has had some more recruiting success in the state of Georgia.
Chidi Okonya, a 6-foot-6 defensive end from Riverdale, has committed to Tennessee over Duke, Stanford and Clemson.
“Tennessee has an excellent business school, tremendous academic resources, world-class athletic facilities and a very passionate fan base,” Okonya said. “Most importantly, I have developed a really sound relationship with the coaching staff. Tennessee is the school where I felt most comfortable calling my next home”.
Okonya, who is rated as the state’s No. 31 overall prospect, has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked fifth academically in his class of 298 students. He is a member of National Honor Society and a 2014 Governor’s Honors program nominee.
“Chidi is an extremely intelligent and charismatic young man,” Riverdale coach Terry Herrod said. “Academically, he is an Ivy League-caliber student. On the football field he is an SEC-caliber athlete, very long, athletic and the frame to add weight. He has only been playing football since the 8th grade. He loves the game and plays it like a warrior.”
Okonya will be the tenth Riverdale player to sign a D1 scholarship since 2013, according to Herrod.
