About 6.5 million ways.
Ohio State’s coach, who led the Buckeyes to the most recent national championship, received an extension through 2020 that will make him the highest paid coach in the Big Ten.
Meyer’s new deal, which is retroactive to Feb. 1, boosts his salary from what would have been $4.9 million this year to $5.8 million for 2015. With annual raises, he’ll make at least $6.5 million a year through the life of the deal.
“Urban Meyer has done an excellent job strengthening our culture of commitment to academics, career development and winning championships,” Ohio State AD Gene Smith said in a release. “Our young men continue to thrive under his leadership, whether on the playing field where they are national champions, through life skills pursuits like Real Life Wednesdays, internships and job fairs, and academically through program-wide efforts to monitor the progress of every student-athlete which has helped the team achieve its highest graduation success rate at 78 percent.
“Additionally, he continues to develop his coaches and attract talented leaders when needed.”
Meyer is 142-26 at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State, where he is 38-3.
The Buckeyes were 14-1 and defeated Oregon for the inaugural College Football Playoff national championship. Ohio State also knocked off Alabama in the national semifinal.
