State leaders and economic development officials are gearing up for Georgia’s signature recruiting event.
The 2015 Georgia Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Tour starts Wednesday, and the chamber, local business leaders and state economic development officials will play host to two dozen executives looking to expand their businesses in the Peach State. The event features two days at the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. The featured city this year is Atlanta.
The 56th annual event is one of the state’s biggest platforms to woo companies, along with the annual Georgia Quail Hunt in Albany. The annual tour is a partnership between the chamber, the Georgia Allies and the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce.
The Red Carpet Tour started in 1959, and the state chamber estimates on its website that attendees have created more than $3.2 billion in revenue for the state and more than 15,000 jobs. But Chris Clark, the president and CEO of the Georgia Chamber, said Tuesday those figures are likely “awfully low” and that the organization did not track jobs and investment figures from every year of the tour.
The event kicks off Wednesday and includes a reception at the Governor’s Mansion, followed by attendance at Thursday’s opening round of the Masters. Participants will return to Atlanta on Friday to tour local attractions including the College Football Hall of Fame and the Georgia Aquarium. This is followed by a second day at Augusta National on Saturday.
