Florida State fans will soon be able to chant and chop in style.
The university’s Board of Trustees has approved $86 million to be used to renovate 65-year-old Doak Campbell Stadium, a makeover that will include a 6,000-seat, indoor-outdoor club seat section that will be completed for the 2016 season.
The new area in the south end zone "will cover four levels and allows fans to experience game day from different vantage points without losing sight of the field," the Tallahassee Democrat wrote this weekend.
Sky box suites also will be upgraded.
“In college athletics, you are always going to be in the facilities business,” FSU AD Stan Wilcox told the paper. “You are always going to be upgrading, fixing, creating new athletic facilities.”
Other changes could include upgrading a video board in the north end zone and improving bathrooms and concourses.
“Football, obviously being our No. 1 financial driver, that’s one of the sports that obviously is the biggest investment,” Wilcox told the paper. “But the return is the largest return as well, so we have to be sure that our football facilities are the best they can possibly be so we can continue to attract top student-athletes around the country, as well as keeping our fan base happy when they come and watch a game at Doak Campbell Stadium.”
