New Georgia offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer spent at least part of the first day of spring practice watching Brice Ramsey, Faton Bauta and Jacob Park, who are competing for the vacant quarterback job.
Schottenheimer appears to be more calm than his predecessor Mike Bobo, who was hired as the head coach at Colorado State after 14 seasons at Georgia.
He knelt on the field and watched while the quarterbacks went through passing drills during the open media sessions.
“I haven’t seen too much yelling from coach Schott,” running back Sony Michel said.
Linebacker Jordan Jenkins noticed differences in the offensive snap count during the part of practice when the two units lined up against each other. Running back Nick Chubb said the terminology is different under Schottenheimer “and it throws you off sometimes.”
Chubb thinks the offense won’t look too different under Schottenheimer.
“I think it will be the same as it always has been,” he said. “The passing game will come around. It always has and always will. It will come. They just have to get the quarterbacks going and the wideouts going and the running backs, too.
Ramsey, Bauta and Park are battling to replace Hutson Mason, who threw for 2,168 yards and 21 TDs with only four interceptions in 2014.
Ramsey has completed 24 of his 39 career attempts for 333 yards, three TDs and two interceptions. Bauta has five career attempts.
“That’s going to be a hard call for the coaches to make,” Michel said. “All the quarterbacks are competing well and doing a great job.”
