Nearly a week ago we asked the question, “Have metro gas prices hit bottom?” The next day the average price for unleaded climbed a penny.

Prices are rising as refineries prepare to switch from winter to a more expensive summer gas blend that helps reduce fuel evaporation and air pollution during warmer months.

The average price is now up by about 13 cents a gallon from last week, according to GasBuddy.com’s latest survey of 2,134 metro stations Wednesday, to $2.185 a gallon. AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report shows a similar jump in prices.

The price was still below the national average of $2.214 and it was still about $1 below the average metro Atlanta price for unleaded a year ago, $3.180.

Prices are rising as refineries prepare to switch from winter to a more expensive summer gas blend that helps reduce fuel evaporation and air pollution during warmer months.

While gas could be found as low as $1.81 in metro Atlanta last week, the lowest this week on Wednesday was $1.92 to $1.93.

The Shell station at 4150 Marietta St. and New Macland Road in Powder Springs in Cobb County was selling regular at $1.92.

Some Costco, QuikTrip, Kroger, Race Trac and Shell stations in Marietta and Kennesaw, also in Cobb, were selling regular for $1.93.
