Dunwoody High School's Nick Buchanan, who is one of the state's hottest college football prospects, is doing a daily diary with the AJC leading up to Wednesday's signing day.
The 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive lineman committed to Cal last month, but got last-minute offers from UGA, Florida, South Carolina and Penn State within the last few weeks. Buchanan took an official visit to UGA last week, and went to Florida this past weekend.
On Monday night, Buchanan de-committed from Cal.
He will decide between Florida and UGA at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Buchanan shared his thoughts on late Tuesday night with the AJC:
“Today, I didn’t get too many phone calls from college coaches. I turned my phone off a lot because I needed time to think for myself. I talked to the head coaches from both UGA and Florida.
“Coach Richt said that no matter what happens, they have a spot for me. Coach McElwain was just stressing how much they need me, and how much I can come make an impact.
“But besides that, I tried to get away from everything to think. I deleted the Twitter app off my phone. Fans say all kinds of things on Twitter. So today was just a quiet day. I was trying to think and get through everything.
“As of right now, I still do not know which school I’m going to. I guess I will decide tomorrow in the morning and announce it at 2 p.m. at my school. We already have a signing ceremony for all of our players. I don’t know what I’m going to do.
“My parents tell me to follow my heart. But my sister just told me a quote: ‘What you want is in front of you, but what you need is inside of you.’ I’m meditating on that.
“It’s kind of crazy at school. I was at the basketball game tonight, and this lady came up to me. She said I have two words for you: ‘Go Dawgs.’ The earlier in the day, somebody came up to me wearing blue and orange, doing the Gator Chomp.
“I don’t know if I will be able sleep tonight.
“Right now, it’s basically like mind versus heart. My mind wants me to go to Georgia, but my gut tells me to go to Florida.”
