News of the week: Zachary Branner, an offensive lineman from New Market, Ala., reneged after he was asked to grayshirt or delay his enrollment until next January, per PantherTalk.com. Branner could end up at Troy.

What to feel good about: Could Georgia State steal an ACC recruit? Chapel Hill, N.C., defensive tackle Tyler Cross, who committed to Syracuse last summer, made an official visit to GSU this past weekend.

What to worry about: Longtime linebacker commit Charlie Patrick of Mays will visit Troy this weekend … Kelvin Rainey, an inside linebacker from Iowa Western, a junior college, signed his letter of intent, but has yet to report to campus.
