Dorian Walker, who burst onto the recruiting scene late after leading his team to a state championship last month, committed to Georgia Tech while on his official visit on Sunday.
The 6-foot, 175-pounder from Mt. Paran Christian high school picked Georgia Tech over offers from Wake Forest and Cincinnati. He also has heavy interest from Clemson.

“It all came down to Georgia Tech’s coaching staff,” Walker told the AJC. “It’s an excellent coach staff. They are very outgoing, and they made me feel wanted. They have their minds set on one goal – and that’s winning. I like that mentality.
“Also, it’s a family thing for me with my father going to Georgia Tech. So I will continue the family tradition.”
Walker’s father attended Georgia Tech as a student-only for engineering and now works at Lockheed-Martin.
This past season, the younger Walker rushed for 2,252 yards and 33 touchdowns while helping Mt. Paran win the first state title for a Cobb County school in more than 40 years.
He is commitment No. 23 for Georgia Tech’s 2015 recruiting class, and projected to play cornerback – although he may get a look on offense at A-Back. He gave the news to Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson before leaving campus on Sunday.
“Coach Johnson was very excited, along with the rest of the coaching staff,” he said. “When I came out of the office, they all gave me big hugs. It made me feel like that I really made the right decision.
“And (my father) was very proud of me. He assisted me during this whole process. He didn’t pressure me to make one decision or the other. He was happy with Georgia Tech.”
Georgia Tech got involved with Walker last month after Yellow Jackets recruiting coordinator Andy McCollum was on the sidelines for the Class A private school state championship at the Georgia Dome. Walker ran for 215 yards and three touchdowns in the title match, impressing McCollum enough to make an offer.
Walker is rated as a 3-star and the state’s No. 114 overall prospect.
