I got to ride in a Tesla today.

You know, the super-hyped electric car that recently arrived in Georgia.

We've written about the controversy surrounding the company, which wants to sell its high-end cars – starting at $69,000 and change – directly to consumers. Georgia law may or may not allow much of that, depending on who you believe.

That’s not what I’m writing about here. I got to ride in one today.

I assigned AJC writer – and car aficionado – Mark Davis to test drive a car and write about it. Mark has owned all kinds of vintage cars, from a Model A to a 1956 Ford Falcon. He knows his way around high-powered new cars, too.

Tesla was only too happy to comply with our request.

Mark got the car last night, a beautiful deep blue exterior with black interior.

This morning Mark took features editor Jamila Robinson and me on a quick trip around the block before he set off on his test drive.

My take: It’s like the most comfortable spaceship you’ve ever imagined. And my God, is it fast! I couldn’t believe it was an electric car.

Jamila is not easily impressed. “Wow,” was all she could say for several moments.

I don’t want to steal too much of Mark’s thunder. Check out Mark’s story in Friday’s business section. We’re also planning a video for ajc.com and a photo gallery for MyAJC.
