How much pressure are you feeling to spend more than you should on gifts during the upcoming holiday season?
A new study by Harris Poll for Atlanta-based SunTrust Banks Inc. found 53 percent of parents with children under age 18 feel pressure to overspend, while nearly 40 percent of consumers overall feel such pressure.
A fifth of those surveyed expect to be behind in paying a mortgage note, utility bill or other regular monthly bill because of overextending during the holiday season.
And when it comes to holiday stress, 49 percent will be at least as stressed as they were last year, while a quarter expect to be more stressed.
Harris Poll surveyed 2,026 adults ages 18 and older between Oct. 28-30.
