Tap and scan: Chick-fil-A unveils new app for paying for meals

Chick-fil-A is making it easier for customers to pay for meals without whipping cash out or swiping a credit card.

The Atlanta-based chain unveiled an app that allows you to use your smartphone to pay for orders by scanning an individualized code at the register, whether inside or at the drive-thru window. Before patrons can tap and scan, an account must be created with the app by using credit card information,

The free app is available for both Android and iOS devices and can be downloaded at Apple’s App Store or Google Play.

The mobile payment option, which was tested in North Carolina earlier this year, is available at 124 metro Atlanta Chick-fil-A locations.

Earlier this week, Taco Bell unveiled a new app that lets you order up your own burrito creation, pay for it on your iOS or Android device, and they pick it up at your leisure. Using GPS technology, a restaurant is alerted when the customer is within 500 feet of a specified location and the kitchen is alerted to start preparing the order after the customer's pending arrival is verified.
