Savannah-based Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. on Wednesday unveiled two new business jets that are faster, more spacious and more fuel efficient than previous models.
The Gulfstream G500 will start at $43.5 million and the G600 will start at $54.5 million.
The company expects to begin delivery of the G500 in 2018 and the G600 a year later.
Gulfstream, which is owned by General Dynamics and employs 12,000, will build the jets in Savannah. The companyl produce the wings and the vertical and horizontal stabilizers. They will be powered by the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW800 engine.
Here are some other highlights:
• The G500 and G600 can fly at a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.90, saving pilots up to an hour per flight versus flying at Mach 0.80. The maximum operating speed for both aircraft is Mach 0.925.
• The jets can carry up to 19 passengers each. The G500 has three living areas, and the G600 has up to four, as well as an optional crew rest area. The planes also have two restrooms.
• Both aircraft can reach an altitude of 51,000 feet with 100 percent fresh air to aid mental alertness reduce fatigue.
• The cockpit has 10 integrated touchscreens that the pilot uses for system controls, flight management, communication, checklists and monitoring weather and flight information.
