Expect rain to continue overnight and enter into North Georgia where wildfires are nearly contained.

Patchy showers, cloudy skies and wind around 10 mph continued throughout the day, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Amid a historic drought in North Georgia, metro Atlanta finally got its first taste of rain in more than a month last week from a storm system. That rain is expected to continue through Tuesday.

According to Channel 2 Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns, rains are southwest of Atlanta and are moving into the city about 55 to 60 mph.

By 8 p.m. metro areas south of I-20 saw heavy downpours and thunder.

Temperatures were 52  degrees in Atlanta, 51 in Blairsville and 53 in Griffin just before 10:20  p.m.
