Atlanta set a record high at 84 degrees Thursday.

The previous record, set in 1974, was 82 degrees, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Temps were 71 degrees in Atlanta, 59 in Blairsville and 62 in Griffin just after 10 p.m.

But warm temps won’t last long, the television station reported.

A cold front is headed toward metro Atlanta Thursday night.

“It slides toward us around 10/11 o’clock moving south across the area,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said. “Mostly no one’s even going to notice that the front has gone through because it’s going to be dry.”

However, winds will bring cooler air and lower temperatures.

“We’re going to be in 40s by this weekend,” Minton said.

Highs will reach 74 degrees Friday, 70 Saturday and 73 Sunday.

“So it’s going to feel like fall as we head into the weekend,” Minton said.
