Showers that reached metro Atlanta Sunday left the metro with wet pavement and traffic delays Monday.

"Expect Perimeter problems this morning with wet pavement all over town," traffic reporter Mark Arum of the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center said before 6:30 a.m.

Soon after, he reported a growing list of delays.

Four crashes temporarily shut down I-85 south at Old National Highway, and delays remained on the Downtown Connector south Monday at North Avenue, the Traffic Center reported.

It was unclear if those crashes were directly related to rain metro Atlanta got Sunday, but Arum said wet roads don’t help.

More rain, cloudy skies and wind around 10 mph are expected throughout the day Monday, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The next wave of rain is to the west of Georgia and is expected to hit metro Atlanta with lunchtime showers continuing in patches through the evening.

Amid a historic drought in North Georgia, metro Atlanta got its first bout of rain in more than a month last week in a storm system that brought six confirmed tornadoes to parts of the metro and areas just outside metro Atlanta.

Following four tornadoes confirmed in Cobb County, Alpharetta, Buckhead and Commerce, the National Weather Service confirmed Friday that two more EF0 tornadoes hit Carroll and Catoosa counties Wednesday.

Showers Monday aren’t expected to turn severe.

By 5 p.m. Monday, the metro will experience another lull. Then the next wave of rain will move through, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

By 8 p.m., metro areas, especially those south of I-20 will get heavy downpours and thunder.

“Then another wave comes in,” Minton said.

It will last through Tuesday morning.

“The pavement is going to be a mess,” Minton said.

Metro Atlanta has a 100 percent rain chance Monday and Tuesday.

Temperatures were 45 degrees in Atlanta, 46 degrees in Blairsville and 45 degrees in Griffin just before 8:25 a.m.
