Metro Atlanta, you might be able to get away with a jacket or scarf by the end of the week.

According to the latest Channel 2 Action News forecast, highs will fall to the lower 70s by Thursday, and lows will dip into the 50s.

Until then, expect heat and some rain.

Temperatures were 82 degrees in Atlanta, 67 in Blairsville and 74 in Griffin just before 8 p.m.

After Atlanta saw its 88th day of temperatures in the 90s on Sunday, Monday’s high is expected to fall just short of the 90-degree mark. The record, set in 1980 and 2011, is 90 days of 90-degree temperatures. The annual average is 37 days.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will start north of metro Atlanta before reaching the metro area about 8 p.m. Monday. A cold front will accompany the wet weather.

“And then that front will gradually move on by Monday into Tuesday, with a chance of showers continuing across North Georgia,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Atlanta’s expected high Tuesday is 83 degrees, and there is a 30 percent chance of rain.
