Sunday should get warmer in and near metro Atlanta as the day goes on. But we likely won’t be able to shake more rain.

“Many of us will get through the day with sunshine,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

The scattered rain doesn’t carry the threat of severe storms or flash flooding, Monahan said.

But it should push temps into the hot zone, with a high of 90 forecast. The chance of rain is at 40 percent.

By noon Sunday, the temp should be at 85 and should hit the high about 4 p.m., according to Monahan.

Monahan said the storms will be slow-moving, so some areas may see no rain at all.

Still more school systems begin classes Monday, and they should have drier conditions in which to head back. Chances of rain are at 20 percent Monday.

Warmer temperatures and less rain make for good conditions for construction workers, and the Georgia Department of Transportation has a few projects in the works this weekend.

Decatur Street will be closed between Piedmont Avenue and Peachtree Center Avenue until 6 a.m. Monday, GDOT said. Contractors are setting bridge beams for the new Courtland Street bridge.

In Cobb County, two right lanes will be closed on I-285 north and south at the Atlanta Road interchange until 5 a.m. Monday, GDOT said.

The weather pattern will shift again Monday as drier air is pushed into Georgia, lowering the rain chances even more.

“Drier air is going to move in Monday and Tuesday,” Monahan said. “That doesn't mean we'll be completely dry, but we're going to cut the rain chances to 30 percent or less.”

By the end of the week, another wet weather system will make its way to North Georgia, ramping up the rain chances once again. So make sure to enjoy the mostly dry days while they last.
