It may not do much to relieve drought conditions, but storms could drop some rain in the Atlanta area Saturday afternoon.

“Showers and storms will be a little more widespread,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. He said the chance of storms would continue into the early evening.

Overall, the likelihood of rain is put at 40 percent, Monahan said. Temperatures will be a bit cooler, with the thermometer expected to be at 86 at 4 p.m.

On Sunday, a high temperature of 90 is forecast, with a 30 percent chance of rain.

To illustrate the current drought conditions: When Lake Lanier, metro Atlanta's main water source, is full, water stands at 1,071 feet. Water stood at 1066.98 feet on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
