Metro Atlanta faces an isolated risk of severe storms Friday evening and continued rain Saturday.

Parts of the metro area could experience strong winds, heavy downpours and intense lightning Friday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Only light showers developed in Jonesboro and some areas north of Jonesboro during the early afternoon.

“I am expecting those showers and storms to be very hit and miss and more or less fizzling out shortly after sunset,” meteorologist Katie Walls said.

Cloud cover suppressed showers some Friday afternoon, and it is expected to do the same Saturday morning before rain picks up later.

There is a 60 percent chance of rain Saturday. The wet weather may break Atlanta’s streak of 90-degree days. Saturday’s expected high is 89 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to return to the 90s Sunday, when the chance of rain diminishes.

Temperatures were 84 degrees in Atlanta, 71 degrees in Blairsville and 78 degrees in Griffin just after 10 p.m.
