Clouds continue to hover over the Atlanta metro area and isolated showers are expected Friday evening until about 10 p.m. All rain is expected to taper off by midnight, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.
The north Georgia mountains will have a few spotty showers, but areas near Athens and Eatonton will have more rain due to the slow moving front coming in from the southwest.
Temperatures are holding steady just below 70 degrees but will dip down to about 50 degrees as a cold front develops overnight. Carrollton is about 68 degrees; 67 degrees in Calhoun; and Griffin and Eatonton are coming in at 66 degrees.
Five inches of rain have fallen south of Atlanta, and one to two more inches are possible. A flash flood watch remains in effect for cities south of Atlanta such as Forsyth and Thomaston, Nitz said.
Sunshine is expected for most of the weekend.
Saturday is expected to be clear but windy with a high of 63 degrees. The low will be 52 degrees.
Sunday’s high is expected to reach 65 degrees with a low of 42 degrees.
