In keeping with the wet weather trend this week, expect isolated storms Sunday and scattered showers Saturday afternoon, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Rain Friday will be minimal in metro Atlanta, with greater chances to the north of the metro area, the television station reported.

High pressure sitting north of metro Atlanta will keep storms at bay — with a few short-lived exceptions in the afternoon. However, the pressure will move out of the area and lead to a wet and cooler weekend.

There is a 40 percent chance of rain Saturday and a 70 percent chance Sunday.

Storms are expected to ramp up Saturday night and last through Sunday afternoon.

“And Sunday is the day to be weather aware,” meteorologist Katie Walls said. “Some storms could be strong or even severe.”

The forecast for continuing rain follows Thursday storm damage.

Gwinnett County firefighters responded to a report of a transformer on fire in unincorporated Norcross. House fires were reported in Peachtree Corners and Duluth, Gwinnett fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said. And trees were on houses in Norcross and Lilburn. One of them snapped and went through the roof of a home on Lancelot Drive in Norcross.

Other areas experienced damage from strong winds and fallen trees.

Pea-sized hail was reported in north Forsyth County, and people in Polk County experienced heavy flooding Thursday afternoon, according to Channel 2.

On North College Street in Cedartown, a large oak cracked, tipped over and damaged two homes.

Although storms led to damage in some areas, they did not help metro Atlanta and other parts of north Georgia out of a widespread drought, according to Channel 2.

The most severe drought conditions are in Calhoun, Rome and areas to the west and north of those cities. A moderate drought is in effect in Athens, Carrollton, Blairsville and throughout metro Atlanta.

Temps were 91 degrees in Atlanta, 77 degrees in Blairsville and 90 degrees in Griffin just before 7 p.m.

Atlanta is expected to reach a high of 91 degrees Friday, 89 degrees Saturday and 83 degrees Sunday.
