If you’ve been missing the 90-degree days in North Georgia, fear not.
Those hot days will return soon — and then they won’t go away, according to Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns.
Saturday kicks off the heat wave by flirting with 90 degrees, Burns said. Atlanta should top out at 89, and there will be little rain to counteract the heat.
North Georgia has a slim chance of isolated showers later this afternoon, but Burns said the rain shouldn’t be heavy or oppressive at any point.
The next several days are only expected to get warmer, Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said, and temperatures could reach the upper-90s ahead of July 4.
“With limited amounts of rainfall, it’ll be fairly dry, and without the rain it’ll be warm,” Burns said. “I’m looking at forecasted highs in our lower suburbs near Middle Georgia getting near 100 degrees by the middle of next week. It is going to be very, very hot.”
The rain chance shouldn’t go above 10 or 20 percent for the foreseeable future, Burns said.
The warm weather is good news for soccer fans planning to attend Atlanta United’s match against the Montreal Impact tonight. The match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium begins at 6 p.m.
Mostly dry conditions also mean lots of unimpeded construction, which the Georgia Department of Transportation and its crews will enjoy.
Peachtree Street will be closed in both directions at Spring Street for construction from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, GDOT said. An I-20 West lane will also be blocked from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. near I-285.
While things could change before the July 4 holiday Thursday, the heat is expected to persist, Burns said. Early forecasts show a hot and humid day for those running in The AJC Peachtree Road Race.
