Scattered storms across the metro area are expected to drop temperatures and bring widespread rain our way.

“A weakening front stalling across north Georgia will give us a lift and the energy we need for showers and storms today,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Scattered showers and storms were expected and rain chances are about 60 percent, Monahan said.

Downpours, frequent lightning and gusty winds are possible in some areas.

Temperatures just before 4 p.m. were 81 degrees in Atlanta, 89 degrees in Blairsville and 85 degrees in Griffin.

The rest of the week ahead brings highs in the upper 80s as opposed to the 90s, where temperatures have been for most of the past two months.
