The local weather outlook was on the upswing by Monday afternoon, with the rain that plagued the metro area over the weekend mostly gone and the power outages that followed dwindling.
By 4 p.m., the number of Georgia Power outages was down to 73, affecting a total of 750 customers, the company reported.
Earlier, thousands of customers lost power and two county school systems canceled classes Monday after high winds combined with the rain-saturated ground to bring down trees in parts of northeast Georgia.
A notice on the White County Schools website said classes were canceled "due to widespread power outages, downed trees and debris on roadways caused by this weekend's storm."
Classes were also canceled Monday in neighboring Habersham County.
There should not be any major weather threat this week. No more than isolated showers were expected Monday night, and those should give way to sunny skies the rest of the week, according to Channel 2 Action News chief meterologist Glenn Burns.
Highs are expected to reach the upper 70s Tuesday and low 80s Wednesday through Friday, with lows around 60 degrees.
