Showers that developed across the outer suburbs before daybreak Thursday are a preview of things to come metro-wide later in the day, and this week’s rain will be followed by the hottest weather so far this year by the end of the weekend, forecasters said.
“There are a few isolated showers out there this morning, but a better chance this afternoon as we heat up,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said.
Radar showed small predawn showers in Paulding and Polk counties to the northwest as well as around Thomaston to the southwest and Eatonton and Greensboro east of Atlanta.
Nitz put the chance of rain at 40 percent Thursday and Friday, diminishing slightly to 30 percent for Saturday.
Afternoon highs will be around 85 Thursday, 87 Friday and 89 Saturday, with morning lows in the upper 60s.
Sunday will be partly cloudy and hot, with highs climbing to 92 degrees after morning lows of 73, Nitz said.
The hot weather will continue into next week, with a high of 93 forecast for Monday.
Atlanta’s last official temperature in the 90s was on Sept. 12, 2014, when the high reached 92.
